Greengate Mall opened on August 18th, 1965, and was the first climate-controlled shopping mall in Westmoreland county. Greengate mall moved the main street experience indoors. Joseph Horne Company was the main anchor store with forty-five smaller stores. Greengate closed in August of 2001 and is now the site of Greengate Center, which houses Wal-Mart and other retailers and restaurants.
